Builder

Drag your conditions in. Watch the count update live.

Pick a field. Pick an operator. Type a value. Add another condition with AND or OR. Build a five-line rule, a fifteen-line rule, a tree of nested logic — the matching subscriber count updates as you type. No SQL, no Boolean parser, no "advanced filter" hidden in a sub-menu.

  • AND / OR / NOT chaining at every level match all, match any, match none
  • Match counter recalculates on every condition change see your audience size before you save
  • Save the segment with a name. Reuse it on the next campaign. Or the next 50 campaigns.
Operators

Eight operators. Every comparison you'll ever need.

Numbers, text, dates, lists, booleans every field type gets its proper operator set. No more "well, this filter only supports equals." Build the rule the way it actually exists in your business logic.

  • String operators: equals, not equals, contains, starts with, ends with, in list, not in list
  • Numeric operators: =, ≠, ≥, ≤, between, not between
  • Date operators: on date, before, after, between, within last N days, more than N days ago
Engagement

Slice on real behavior. Opens, clicks, bounces, unsubs.

Every engagement event is a queryable signal. Opened any campaign in last 30 days? Clicked the pricing link in the last week? Bounced once ever? Unsubscribed and re-subscribed? Build a segment on it. Engagement signals are first-class — not a "premium add-on."

  • opened_last_N_days · target re-engagers, exclude dormant accounts, find your superfans
  • clicked_last_N_days · the strongest intent signal in your data — separate browsers from buyers
  • bounced_ever, unsubscribed, complained · build the suppression rules your sender reputation needs
Custom fields

Your business data. As segmentation criteria.

Plan tier. Lifetime value. Last purchase date. Trial days remaining. Lead source. Account manager. NPS score. Whatever fields you pump in via signup form, API, or CSV import — they're queryable in the segment builder, with the right operator set per field type.

  • Numeric, text, date, boolean, select-list field types — operator set adapts to each
  • Field values populated from form submissions, API webhooks, automation Operate steps, or CSV import
  • Combine custom fields with engagement signals: plan = "free" AND clicked_pricing_last_7d

Six segments you can copy-paste tomorrow.

Every one of these is a real audience operators rebuild every week. Build them once in CleverlyBox — they'll auto-recalc forever after.

Recipe 01

Re-engagers

Subscribers who used to open, then went quiet. Send the "we miss you" sequence or sunset them if they don't bite.

opened_last_180d ≥ 1 AND opened_last_30d = 0 AND unsubscribed = false ↑ on $149 CleverlyBox lifetime
Recipe 02

Tiered SaaS resale

Build Starter / Growth / Enterprise tiers. Charge $99 / $299 / $799 per month. Quotas enforce the difference. Mix of 10 Starter, 8 Growth, 2 Ent = $4,980/mo recurring.

10× $99 = $990 8× $299 = $2,392 2× $799 = $1,598 = $4,980/mo MRR
Recipe 03

Done-for-you retainer + platform

Charge $1,500 retainer for “email marketing on autopilot” — campaigns, automations, list health. Platform access bundled. 6 retainers × $1,500 = $9,000/mo recurring.

6 clients × $1,500/mo = $9,000/mo MRR = $108,000/yr ↑ vs. hourly billing

Commercial license · included on Agency tier

No revenue cap. No per-client surcharge. No “you must badge our logo.” The $149 Agency lifetime ships with full commercial-use rights — bill clients whatever you want, keep 100% of the revenue, white-label the whole experience under your brand. The license is yours, lifetime.

Dynamic by default

Static lists are lies. Every CleverlyBox segment is dynamic.

Most ESPs let you "segment," but what they actually do is freeze a snapshot of your list at the moment you click save. By the time you send next week, half the segment is stale. CleverlyBox segments are queries, not snapshots — they recalculate the moment you hit send. Always current. Always accurate.

  • Segment definition is stored — the matching subscribers are computed at query time
  • Use the same segment in three different campaigns this month — each send gets a fresh recalc
  • Use it inside an automation trigger — the audience updates as subscribers move in and out of the rule

Questions people ask

Dynamic by default. A CleverlyBox segment is a saved query, not a frozen list. Every time you send a campaign or fire an automation referencing the segment, it re-runs the rule against your current subscriber data. New signups that match the rule are included. Subscribers who unsubscribed or fell out of the engagement window are excluded. You never have to "refresh" anything.

There's no enforced cap. Practically, segments tend to converge at 5–8 conditions because that's where the audience gets specific enough to be useful. We've seen operators run 20+ condition segments for compliance use cases (e.g. "everybody who opted into transactional but not marketing, in California, before April 1, with a verified email") — it works, it just takes a moment longer to compute.

Yes — that's the whole point. The most useful segments combine both: plan = "free" AND clicked_pricing_last_7d (free users showing buying intent), or custom.last_purchase_at < today−90 AND opened_last_30d ≥ 1 (lapsed buyers who are still reading). You can't build segments like that on Mailchimp's free tier or on ConvertKit at all — every operator and every signal is available on every CleverlyBox plan.

Both sends recalc independently, so the recipient list can differ between send 1 and send 2 — even minutes apart — if a subscriber's data changed (e.g. they opened in between, which moved them into or out of an engagement-based segment). If you want to send a follow-up specifically to people who got send 1 but didn't open it, that's a separate campaign-engagement segment, also dynamic.

Yes. Automations support segment-based triggers — when a subscriber enters or leaves a segment, the automation fires. Combined with the dynamic recalc behavior, this means automations like "if a subscriber's plan flips to 'free' and they haven't logged in for 14 days, send the win-back sequence" run themselves. No cron job, no external worker.

No. The segment is a view, not a copy. Your subscriber count is the unique people in your lists. A segment that matches 8,000 of those subscribers doesn't add 8,000 to your count — it's just a query against the same underlying records. Use as many segments as you want.

Yes. Open any saved segment, click Export, get a CSV of the matching subscribers with all fields. Useful for compliance audits, migrating subscribers between lists, or feeding a partner system. The export is a snapshot at export-time — the underlying segment stays dynamic.
